Schools

Schools are where we learn things, like English, mathematics and etc.
Schools are divided into two types; normal schools that teach academic subjects like science and geography, and polytechnic schools that teach hands-on subjects like carpenting and smithing.

Schools are important for a civilized society but at times, i condemn them for being too standardized. We all know children have different kind of talents. Some are better at music, some are better at art... But schools grade their students based only on their academical performance.

Before the industrial age, every kids learn from their parents. Example, a carpenter normally learn the skills from their father, goldsmith learn from their parents... until Industrial Age strikes and the need for employees begin. Those industrialized nations started to adapt Prussian education philosophy to cover the need. Today, almost all public schools are using Prussian style which is "to produce employees that follow orders".

Everything will have to be One answer. Everything had become too technical because of standardization. Example for technical teaching, 1+1 must be 2. Any other answer will be wrong. Let's look at creative teaching... 1+1 might equals to 4 if the 1 is a set of 2.

The subject that i condemn the MOST... Moral studies. In secondary school, i can still remember... We are to memorize all the values word by word without a mistake. Well, if you ask me, that's so stupid.

If i can change the whole system, children will be educated how to read, write and calculate, and the rest will be used to nurture their natural talents. For moral subjects, it's the best if we use religion to educate them. Well, Buddhism is quite good in educating moral values.

I heard from my friend who heard from a school principal.

"For hardworking kids who studied well in class, take good care of them. Bcoz they may be the future teachers of our school."

"For lazy kids who always sleep in class and do nothing, take better care of them. Bcoz they may be the next Lim Goh Tong of Genting Inc and make our country's economy grow."

"For cunning kids who like to cause trouble, take BEST care of them and make sure you make them like and remember you after they leave school. Bcoz they may be our next Prime Minister."
